One avatar. The mother of an ADHD teen who can't wake up.

Fish's 2026-09-02 ruling collapsed three lanes into one. This is what the canonical doc now says: who she is, the two mass desires the message serves and the emotions that activate them, what she believes, which angles carry receipts, and where the competitors are.

The card

Every brief starts here. One avatar, two mass desires, one message. Everything else on the page is the evidence for these ten lines.

1 avatar
Mother, 38–52, of a 13–18 year old with diagnosed ADHD, usually medicated, who cannot get himself out of bed and whom she has been waking by hand for years.
Mass desires
Family and Independence. Family: the need to take care of one's offspring; he is her legacy, and she will spend on him what she won't on herself. Independence: the need to be distinct and self-reliant; his, and her own morning back. One act satisfies both: hand him the means, stop doing it for him.
Overarching desire
Independence. His: he gets himself up without her. Hers: her mornings and her life back. Family is what licenses the spend; a transfer of the morning from her to him is what's in the box.
Activators
Dread of doing it again · fear for his future · guilt for having been so angry at him · helplessness, nothing works. Four separate angles, one per ad, never blended. Each switches the same desire on from a different feeling. She resonates with the feeling, never the action: how she gets him up varies house to house, so no hook describes the stairs or the knocking.
Resident emotion
Helpless dread. Every mother-OP in the four threads is out of moves with the next morning coming: "it's been 2 months since school started and it's still not happening. WHAT DO I DO? Just keep waking him up? Idk what to do…" Fear underneath, anger on the surface. Guilt is what the community lays on her afterward ("be gentle with them"), the sharpest activator, not the resident state.
Daily feeling
Not a scene. Tonight she knows tomorrow will be the same, she has already tried the thing she'll try, and she will end up angry at a kid who can't help it. In her words: "As if it's easy to wake these kid up. As if it's easy to maintain a routine, keep anxiety down, and get them to school on time." r/TwoXADHD p7m2vw
Meeting point
Recognition of the feeling she is already in when the ad reaches her (one of the four activators), then the release: it was never a discipline problem, it was never her, and the step nobody built for his brain now exists and hands the morning to him.
1 message
He's not lazy and you're not failing him. Give him the one step nobody built for his brain, and he does the rest without you.
Proof logic
If sound is what he tunes out, and every tool she tried was sound plus a task, then a signal that is neither is the first thing aimed at the right layer. If it persists until he ends it, ending it is the first action of the day.
Identity payload
By buying it she is the mother who handed him the means instead of doing it for him. Her own community's doctrine, delivered as a $39–49 object.
Stake floor
Rung 3 and up: missing school entirely, credits, scholarship, fired at 22. Late, tardies and the fight are the daily struggle, never the stake.

The avatar statement

Written in the Sarah format: emotional pain, failed attempts, specific goal, day-to-day habits.

Jen, 44, mother of Caleb, 15, diagnosed ADHD-combined at 9, on a stimulant since 10. She works a job with a fixed start (school office, dental front desk, nursing shift, warehouse admin) and has re-cut her hours around his appointments; she works late to make them up. She has spent six school years and $300–800 on the standard playbook: two phone alarms then six, a loud clock then a louder one, the sunrise lamp the forum swore by, a routine chart, melatonin at 8 then 7, a 504 meeting that produced a paper accommodation the school does not enforce, and one semester of "let him fail" that ended in a detention that fizzled out. She still goes into his room five or six times a school morning. Last year the school logged around 30 tardies and she is now watching credits. He has told her he hates her at 6:50 and meant it, and told her he loves her at 7:45 and meant that too.

Emotional pain

She is the reason he gets up, and every morning tells her she is also the reason he hasn't learned to. She has been told by a mother-in-law, a teacher and one pediatrician that he needs more discipline. She stopped telling people. Some mornings she has thought I hate him and then hated herself for the thought. She suspects she has ADHD too.

Failed attempts

The signature failure is not "nothing worked." It is she did everything right and it still failed. Charts, wind-downs, phone out of the room, med timing, the ADHD-specific apps. Each worked about nine days.

Specific desired goal

One school year where he gets himself up. She walks past his door at 7:05 and he is already downstairs. She stops being the first step of his treatment plan. She gets proof, before August of senior year, that he can be alone in a dorm and not lose the scholarship or the semester.

Day to day

Up at 5:30 to be ready before the war starts. Coffee reheated twice. ADDitude at 11pm, two ADHD-parent Facebook groups, r/ADHDparenting, two or three ADHD-mom TikTok creators. Her free time is the appointment calendar. What the problem costs: her sleep, her marriage ("it frustrates my husband a lot since he likes being at places early"), her job, the other kids' mornings.

03

The desire ladder

"I want him to wake up" is not a driver. Ladder down until you hit the human want. Built for Independence; the emotion that switches each rung on is tagged.

  1. 1 · "I want him to wake up to his own alarm."If I could change anything about my morning it would be that my 15 year old son with ADHD would start being more independent and wake up, get dressed, and go down to breakfast by 6:25 on his own.ADD-29717

  6. 6 · "…so I can let him go without fear, and get myself back." activator: guilt, grief → courage at the CTAMy ADD son is 28 years and he is still struggeling to keep a job, to get going and stay going… and somehow, I still feel I could have done better as a mom.Quora (Gemini lead): the ladder failed and this is what it cost · "Planning for transition to college" Priti #8344

The ruling

Independence is the overarching desire; Family is the frame that makes her pay for it. The parent–child battle is the independence battle, and the product is a literal transfer of the morning from her to him. Family (he is her legacy; she'll spend on him what she won't on herself) is why a mother buys a $49 wrist alarm she would never buy for herself, and it is what the blame-removal hook speaks to. What she is buying is a kid who gets up without her and a morning that is hers again. Guilt, shame and fear are activators, never the desire. A calmer morning is the satisfaction form; 89% of buyers are still going up the stairs.

Where the evidence sits

Two independent ladders bottom out at the Family desire ("I still feel I could have done better as a mom"). Independence has its own live receipt: the forward-looking independence body converts at $28.80 CPA, and HiStrips' scaling parent static promises "he wakes himself, you get your mornings back." Relief has the most quotes and is demoted on behavior, not counts.

What to test

A marksman batch on the control body with three hook callouts, one per activator: guilt (Family), fear (Family, future), shame (Independence). One variable, seven days. The teen-only VOC pull (running) supplies the verbatim.

Hawkins map, applied as activators

Everything below 200 is where the ad finds her. Courage (200) is where she buys. One read has to move her: recognition (shame, guilt) → externalized villain (anger at the gap, never at her or him) → proof (fear answered) → courage (CTA). Leave her at guilt and it doesn't convert; skip guilt and it doesn't stop the scroll.

Identity marketing

The role she wants to act out: the informed, calm mother who handed him the means instead of doing it for him. The band on his wrist is the visible sign she did.

The fact that they have adhd doesn't mean you have to do the things they find hard, it means you have to make sure they have all means to do it themselves.r/TwoXADHD · her own community set the role before we did
QuestionAnswer
Where does she want to BEHer own kitchen at 7:05, coffee still hot, his door closed and him already past it. The doorway is the place she wants to not be.
What does she want to LOOK like40s, real house, work clothes for a job with a start time, hair done because she had the ten minutes. Working and middle class. Never exec, never wrecked.
What does she want to FEELForgiven, then relieved. The story is the morning she waited, and nothing happened, and that was the point.
What self-image to PORTRAYThe one in the group with the answer. Composed, a little dry, not gushing.

Tell for the reader: "his brain," not "he." She separates the kid from the neurology on purpose. Copy does the same. Dorm pictures are dead ($130 CPA); future works as language, not as a picture.

05

Market belief system

Her picture of the world. Desire writes the content, identity writes the visuals, belief writes the development. Violate one of these and no promise saves the ad.

About ADHD

  • Real, biological, heritable. Not an excuse. I'm not CREATING my poor sleep or FAKING my morning blues in order to control or manipulate anyone.
  • Mornings are the hardest part of the diagnosis and the least talked about.
  • It runs in the house. She probably has it.

About her kid

  • Not lazy. Working harder than his peers to do less.
  • He wants independence too; the apology after is real.
  • The nasty morning kid is not the real kid.

About herself

  • She is doing everything and it is not enough, and that is on her.
  • She is damaging the relationship by being the alarm.
  • She cannot run a precise morning with her own brain.

About products and advice

  • Louder doesn't work. More alarms don't. Consequences don't. Charts work nine days. Apps get solved asleep.
  • Nothing is "gentle" for this kid. A gentle-wake promise reads as "not for my son."
  • Too good to be true fires fast. One promise, one mechanism, one guarantee.
  • A competitor's band that quit after two minutes is already in her past.

About doctors, meds, the system

  • Meds help the day and hurt the night. Meds cannot fix a morning he is not awake for.
  • Pediatricians aren't ADHD experts; specialists take a year; the 504 is paper.
  • She is the case manager of a care team that has never met.

About school and the judges

  • Tardy policy is mechanical. Credits and graduation are numbers she has seen.
  • "He needs discipline" comes from relatives, teachers, strangers, sometimes her husband. Any ad that sounds like them is dead on line one.

Violations that kill the ad

NeverWhy
"Treats / designed for / engineered for ADHD"A claim she knows devices can't make; also our own kill list.
"Just set a routine / phone across the room"She has. She reads it as the advice-givers.
"Gentle, calm, peaceful wake-ups"Not her kid. Reads as a product for easy sleepers.
"He'll wake up happy"He won't. Promise up, not happy.
Blaming her, even softlyThe discipline wound. She leaves.
Five promises stackedEfficacy doubt is already 50%.
Sound or app in the mechanismContradicts everything she has learned.
A doctor "recommends" itInvented authority. Validator-banned. She knows her pediatrician recommends nothing.

Belief devices

  • Yes-train: Six alarms on his phone? Yelled up the stairs before 7? Meds on the nightstand he can't wake up to take? Been told he just needs discipline? Then you already know it isn't a discipline problem.
  • Symptoms as the reason: the control already does this (six alarms, five minutes apart, max volume). Extend with the ADHD-only symptoms: no memory of being woken; awake and still can't move; nasty then sorry.
  • Authority: the research at its honest tier (Cortese 2009, Kidwell 2015, Occhionero 2023 as "one 2023 study found"). Never a named clinician. Peer authority is stronger: Sounds dont wake me, but touch sensory will.
  • Logic chain: he tunes out sound → louder is the wrong axis → every tool needed the capacity ADHD impairs → a signal on his wrist that persists until he ends it → ending it is the first thing he does awake → a week of that is her proof.

Angles

Four activator families, one per ad, never blended. A hook names the feeling and the reader, never the scene. Every family resolves to the same desire and message; only the door she walks in through changes. Hooks here are brief-level; Sonnet writes the final line and the validator gates it.

01 ⭐It was never a discipline problem

Every tool she was handed needed the capacity ADHD takes away; this is the first one that doesn't. She was aiming at the wrong layer, not failing. Receipts: the control converts on this exact move at $25–30 CPA.

  • If your ADHD teen is awake and still can't get out of bed, it was never about the alarm.
  • You've been told he needs discipline by people who have never had to get him up.
  • Six alarms, a sunrise lamp, a chart, and a 504. He still can't get up. It's not the list that's wrong.
emotion: guilt · stake pairing: credits / attendance, "awake and still can't get up" as the rung-4 reveal

02Missing school entirely / the attendance file

The tardy count doesn't care about the diagnosis; the band ends the count at the source. Receipts: "Late to school 30 TIMES!" · "Consistently hours late for school and missing school entirely" · detention every four tardies · the $450 truancy fine.

  • The attendance letter came addressed to me. He was asleep.
  • Thirty tardies is a number the school keeps. I kept the mornings.
  • He has a 504 for everything except the part where he's not there.
emotion: fear · rung 3 → 4

03Scholarship / the semester

The thing he earned can be lost before 8am by a brain that hears the alarm and can't launch. Receipts: survey only ("Almost a loss of a scholarship"). Zero hits in the bank. Test as a hook callout; do not build a body on it.

  • The scholarship letter said "maintain attendance." His alarm has been going off for twenty minutes.
  • We almost lost the scholarship at 6:52 on a Tuesday.
  • He earned it awake. He nearly lost it asleep.
emotion: fear · rung 3–4 · thin receipts

04Future / independence, verified before he leaves

A skill that transfers to a dorm, proven on school mornings while she can still watch. Receipts: independent slop 13 at $28.80 · "Planning for transition to college" · "late to work as a young adult because of the same thing."

  • He's 17. I have one school year left to find out if he can wake up without me.
  • Fired twice for attendance. That was a stranger on Reddit. I read it as my son at 24.
  • Independence you can check before August, not find out about in October.
emotion: fear · rung 3 → 4 · language yes, dorm pictures no

05Calmer mornings / the whole house

One silent signal on one wrist instead of an alarm that wakes everyone except him. Receipts: the largest category in the bank · "Everyone was up because of her alarm except her." Rung 1 on its own: banned as the stake. The daily-struggle half of the meeting point and the victory-as-absence image.

  • Her alarm woke her sister down the hall. Her sister came in. She slept two more hours.
  • The other two kids get the mornings he doesn't take.
  • Nobody in this house has been called a terrible person before 8am in three weeks.
emotion: anger → relief · desire and after-image, never the stake

06I did everything right

She followed every protocol; every protocol missed the same layer.

  • You did the chart, the melatonin, the no-phone-after-nine. You didn't fail. You were aiming at the wrong layer.
  • Every protocol we followed assumed he was awake for it.
emotion: guilt · the lane's signature resignation

07The med catch-22 / the treatment gap

The plan needs him conscious; nobody charted who delivers that. Receipts: "I have tried to give him his meds early so that they kick in by 7, but he doesn't wake up enough to take them."

  • He needs the meds to get up. He needs to be up to take the meds. Guess who's the missing step.
  • The treatment plan has a step nobody wrote down. It's me, at 6:40.
emotion: anger at the gap · unclaimed by every competitor

08The mother has it too

She is asked to run a precise morning with the neurology that makes precision impossible; 27% of buyers want an adult version. Receipts: "As a Mom with ADHD & EF-deficits of my own… everyone wakes up at home but her" · "you just gotta be an adult… that's just an excuse."

  • I can't wake myself up. I'm supposed to wake him.
  • Two people who can't wake up, trying to wake each other up.
emotion: shame → guilt · white space #1
